Today I’m teaching explore web 2.0 at Surry Hills Library. Unfortunately the cookies issue is still with us but we will get there eventually. Can’t wait to get the new PCs.
I’m teaching an Explore the web 2.0 class today and I’m h aving my usual IT challenges with cookies not doing what they are supposed to!
I’ve got lots of ideas of what I want to do but still trying to work out how to get the higher management to agree on giving me permission to do it. Very conservative and scared of what the staff might say about the organisation. Some of the ideas include creating a full on blog – have had success with the Centenary blog but that isn’t being updated. Want to be able to have an active blog. Would also like to create a wiki for staff policy manuals and the like. Courses for the public – job searching, downloading photos from camera, mps/ipod courses.
On another note had a win with out IT department regarding the cookies issue we have been having with the training computers. They have finally given up and decided that it will be easier to just create individual accounts for the PCs rather than trying to fix the cookies issue. Hopefully they will do it soon!
Just when I thought the promotion for my IT courses would run smoothly we discover errors in the flyers! Back to Design department for correction. Have been lucky in that respect as most of the errors have now been fixed so should have the flyers ready for printers by Wednesday. Doesn’t help that the courses are supposed to start on Tuesday next week. Oh well will see what happens.
Having fun trying to motivate staff to get interested in web 2.0 technologies. Not having much luck. Looking at running a version of the Learning 2.0 program for staff. Showing them the site and getting them to do it on their own doesn’t seem to get them to do it. Looks like most of the staff are more interested in formal training situation where there is a classroom. Wonder if I can get them to do things then? I can only hope.
I’m also living in hope that my computer issues will get sorted out before the course starts – otherwise I’m in for a very bumpy ride as far as teaching the courses is concerned. Hoping to run some courses in a slightly different format.
I guess I was hoping for miracles. Unfortunately I’m still having the cookies issue with the training computers. Unfortunately the setup on the computers which are networked via Citrix seems to be causing the problem. First discover that 9 computers use the 1 login not good. This means that when I login to web mail, facebook, twitter etc on one computer it appears on another machine. I can also be logged off by others. Makes training extremely difficult.
